Physical destruction of data-bearing media for equipment that must not re-enter service, handled under controlled conditions with recorded quantities.
Where policy, contract or risk assessment requires it, media is destroyed rather than erased. Destroyed media then enters material recovery channels, so the asset is removed from service without removing it from the circular loop.
